Summer at Immanuel
Some Traditional things; Some New things & Always Our Responsibilities
Summer is here and what does it hold in store for Immanuel? Our choir will bless us with abundant music during worship on June 6th before taking the summer off. The Worship and Music committee along with Peter are working on some special music for our summer worship and twice this summer we will worship outdoors. Our worship service moves to 9:30AM starting June 13th so we can take advantage of the cooler mornings.
On June 27th our worship service will ring glory to God with many musicians joining Dr. Osvaldo Vena, Peter Slavin and myself leading a service of worship called “Still a Dream.” Read more inside and be sure to invite everyone you know. It will be a peaceful, hopeful and moving experience for all ages.
In July we will be gathering a group of adults and kids to decorate bikes and participate in the Evergreen Park 4th of July Parade. We will be meeting at church to decorate the kid’s bikes and eat hot dogs before the parade. I will be hosting a Kid’s Night at Church on July16th. Any parents want two hours to go out without their kids?
Communion will be celebrated once a month during the summer. The format will be less formal than our traditional communion and will include special sermons on the sacrament.
But all summer long church committees, members and staff are invited to work with the sharings from our May 16th all church meeting. Summaries of your yellow, blue and pink slips are available to all by email or hard copy. The original slips are being kept in the Church Parlor so all can sit down with them. I have had many conversations with individuals since the meeting and we are re-imagining our work for God. Our Church Council and all committees will visit the summaries in June. The conversations will be ground breaking.
Along with summer change and fun comes our usual responsibilities to God’s world. Please don’t forget to donate food for the lunches we give out from the church office and please do not forget your regular giving. Summer is a traditional time of poor cash flow in churches because people travel. Please remember to send your offering in so that the work continues!
May we meet all summer long in worship, fellowship & Joy
